Kevin and Elisa Are Engaged Today (文定之喜)

#2013-0601A

Congratulations, Kevin and Elisa!

Both of you have been engaged to each other, with so many of your relatives and your friends witnessing the very meaningful ceremony of engagement which was conducted this morning in accordance with our old traditions. We are so happy to have come to your engagement and we do hope that we'll be invited to your wedding very soon!

And I, who used to be a school teacher, would like to tell you something about LOVE during your Engagement Banquet at noon.

What is the meaning of love? The English word "love" consists of four letters and each of them carries a significant concept that both husband and wife should learn:

L = listen or listening -- Not only to "hear" what he/she says, but also "understand" what he/she means.

O = observe or observation -- To observe and learn what your husband's or wife's needs.

V = verbalize -- To communicate in the right words and, therefore, in an effective way. (The right type of "body language" can be helpful to the husband and wife's communication as well!)

E = equal or equality -- The husband is as important as the wife; neither is superior (or inferior) to the other. This is the basic principle for the husband and wife to follow.

Well, the love between husband and wife is not merely abstract ideas or concepts. Rather, it can be truly learned and it should be put into practice in your everyday life. So, Kevin and Elisa, just "observe" the fan that I've bought as a gift for you, and you'll see how closely related the three L's are. The three L's are Love, Living, and Learning in the noun forms. In my opinion, they are more likely to be verbs (words showing the actions): to LIVE, to LEARN, and to LOVE. -- See the first two pictures below.
